I have followed your career since 1964 when mine also began. I will always remember the advice you gave me when you were in Chicago to promote your book - I asked what you would say to a novelist hoping to publish her first book. You replied: "Mary Ann, there are a lot of people out there who would like you to fail. Never take NO for an answer."

You have been part of our dinner hour for decades, a part of our family. I have admired your talent, your tenacity, your strength. Don't take NO for an answer Peter. I pray for you always.

8. This thread seems to be about Peter Jennings, though I'm not entirely sure. I've been trying to find a way, as crazy as it seems, to let Peter Jennings know that yet another person is thinking about him. Every time I turn I on the ABC Evening News, I hope that he'll be back on. But I know that chemotherapy can be devastating. The point is, that as someone who was taught by my parents to follow the news, I have watched the ABC nightly news for many years now. I have always like Peter Jenning's manner, and particularly his occasionally droll style. I suspect that his politics are not unlike mine, but that really doesn't matter. Most of all, in the strangest kind of modern way, my wife and I have "connected" with him. I feel as though I could have him over to dinner and talk over a lot of things with him, and that he would be a lot of fun to get to know better. So my wife and have been very saddened by this development, and we am hoping for the best.

I just want to let you know that you are in my thoughts and I pray that God will strengthen and heal you for His glory. I am a minister and Bible College teacher presently living in Oshawa, ON and have always appreciated the smooth, relaxing manner with which you have delivered the day's news. It has made me feel that you were talking to me. I remember well watching ABC News during my days at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois during the mid-eighties and have admired you ever since. I keep checking the web to see if there is any update on how you are doing and wishing that you will be able to return to your full respoonsibilities soon.

13. I have had breast cancer two times in the past nine years and am currently undergoing chemotherapy. I have thought about Peter Jennings so many times over the past few months because the evening news just seems flat without him. I have tried to locate information about how he is doing but can't seem to locate anything other than the original announcement about his lung cancer. I guess I just wanted to be able to add my wishes for both his comfort and return to good health.

14. I keep wondering how Peter Jennings is doing, and now I see that I am not alone in this. Every day I pray that his treatment is going well and that he will recover. I miss him very much when I watch the nightly news, as I am sure 1000's of others do also.

20. It's been almost 3 months since your stunning on-air announcement. Since that time my 79 year old father has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Adenocarcinoma. Now, the gravity of your disease has become personal. It's an intimate time when everything in life becomes significant. I pray that you and your family will use the strength that we all are given to meet the challenges ahead. Your absence on the evening news is a constant reminder to me of your struggle - and as I pray for my dad, I pray for you and your family also.
