Actress Anne Bancroft, perhaps best known for her role as Mrs. Robinson in the 1967 movie The Graduate, has died at age 73 of uterine cancer. She passed away Monday at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, John Barlow, a spokesman for her husband, writer-director-comedian Mel Brooks, said Tuesday.
Uterine (endometrial) cancer is one of the most common cancers in American women. In fact, about 40,000 women receive a diagnosis of endometrial cancer each year, making it the fourth most common cancer found in women - after breast cancer, lung cancer and colon cancer.
The lights on Broadway will be dimmed Wednesday in Bancroft's honor, the League of American Theatres said.
Here's to you Mrs. Robinson.
