Researchers have discovered that individuals caring for a loved one dying from lung cancer are
15 percent more likely to quit smoking than smokers who haven't had the experience. Duke physician Dr. Lori
Bastian has designed a telephone counseling program combining discussion, relaxation techiniques and guided
imagery. Dr. Bastian is hoping to bring the percentage of people who quit, due to a relatives illness, up to 30
to 40 percent by interviewing patients in the hospital and inquiring whether or not they know of a relative who would
like to quit or trying to quit. I hope she has great success.Note: The contents of this blog are for informational purposes only and should not be construed as medical advice or substitute for professional care. For medical emergencies, dial 911!
