An enthusiastic team of researchers are starting
a large study as to the causes of breast cancer and need more Latina volunteers.%uFFFDThe study is an important part of
a 10-year study, study all ethnic groups, which was launched in October 2005, by the National Institute of
Environmental Health Science. They specifically need sisters, in order to determine more clearly the cause of the
disease, as sisters share the same genetic make-up and similar environments. The women must be between 35-74 years old,
be blood related sisters, one must have breast cancer and one must not. Even if you don't necessarily meet these
requirements you are encouraged to enroll, 50,000 women are needed, and at least 2,500 of them should be Latinas.

1. I was born in the Dominican Republic to Cuban parents and came to the States when I was 10.
My background is in health education, political science and addressing Latino issues in whatever I do. I have worked with the Sister Study as a consultant and now as a permanent staff member for almost 3 years. I am proud that the Sister Study has Latina representation and want to help enroll more Latinas in the study!
