A decade ago, cancer research funding was a priority in the United States. As a result, many new discoveries were made, new treatments initiated, and new drugs created. Today, more cancer patients are surviving because of that research. Each day, researchers continue to learn more about the causes and mechanisms of cancer. Cancer research is needed, now, more than ever, and the National Institutes of Health research funding may be cut back to levels that will slow any additional progress so essential to cancer cures and cancer survivorship. Drastic budget cuts to cancer research are happening, and will continue to happen, if no one speaks up. The priorities of our government do not seem to be with the people, in areas vital to health. If this is an important issue to you, please contact your congressional representative at the United States House of Representatives, and urge them to stop any additional budget cuts for cancer research. This year 1.3 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer. Let your voice be heard.Note: The contents of this blog are for informational purposes only and should not be construed as medical advice or substitute for professional care. (Page 1)2. I am very sad to hear there would be any cuts in any Cancer Reserch. We have come so long, I have a friend who is just finishing up with her treatments. And her outlook, looks great do to all the reserch. Now why would we not want to keep helping people to survive this cancer. We need to do all we can to stop this from happening, and go on HELPING this cause.
3. This is just another typical event that our government does whenever it needs money for something that will not be positive in any way. When will our country's leaders realize that trying to change people that do not want to be changed should not come before preventing life threatening illnesses in our own people. So much money is wasted on negativity instead of protecting our own citizens. Our government is becoming more unintelligent with every passing day.

4. I'm a runner with the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge fundraising team and although we are running to raise 3.8 million dollars this year, the cuts in federal funding would be devastating for Dana-Farber's researchers. As a community organizer, I agree with Nancy that a united voice is key. Phonecalls are better than "canned" emails but spreading the word is extremely important!

1. As an advocate, I agree completely that we need to get engaged to make a change. Politically, it takes more than people emailing Congress and the White House - effective pushing requires a clear message and people working together. One Voice Against Cancer is a coaltion (www.ovaconline.org) that's worked in this area for several years. If you want to get involved, feel free to email info@ovaconline.org and you will be put in touch w/ an appropriate organization.
WORKING TOGETHER IS THE ONLY WAY TO BE HEARD!
