1. I think that it's very usefull invention. Maybe someday it saves mankind from cancer. I belive that researches will be work in this branch and sold this problem once for all.

2. I think that the promotion of this gum might be misleading to certain consumers. If this gum really does work to prevent cancer, I'm sure it's not 100% and some smokers may think that they are completely free from harm of cigarettes. Does it do anything for emphysema? Because there are far more risks to drinking and smoking thatn just cancer, and consumers need to remember that.

4. Any news about preventing cancer is good news. I have a family member with cancer of the espohagus -- though it has been treated with surgery, radiation and chemo for the past five years, we're reaching the end of treatment options and the cancer continues to spread. I only wish that those who choose to continue to use tobacco could realize the incredible risk and the cost to the families left behind from their choice. Yes, a preventative step is good -- but quitting would be better.

5. I HAVE BEEN A SMOKER FOR 43 YEARS AND WORRY EVERYDAY WHAT IT IS DOING TO MY UPPER RESPERITORY TRACT & LUNGS. ONCE YOU SMOKE I DON'T THINK ANYONE CAN REALLY QUIT. I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN THIS CHEWING GUM HOPEFULLY IT IS A START IN PREVENTING CANCER ASSOCIATED WITH SMOKING. ANY INFORMATION WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

6. We just lost my lovely 39 year old sister in law to lung cancer. It was a terrible death (despite the best hospices nurses on earth- God Bless Hospice Nurses!) and an irreplaceable loss for her two little girls and my brother.
I agree, that although a useful tool, this gum might well be misleading as a false safety.

7. Instead of relying on a gum, people should just realize how dangerous smoking is for them. Lung cancer and other cancers related to smoking are REAL and hoping that a gum is going to prevent them from happening is ridiculous. If you do smoke, quit. Not only will it help you but will help everyone around you.

9. That wonderful news if this can really help to prevent some mouth and upper digestive track cancers. I have faith in the public's intelligence and I do not htink that they would think this cures all cancers. It may even help people to smoke less reaching for a piece of gum instead of a cigarette

I'm guessing you're not a smoker. sometimes it just isn't that easy. nicotine is addictive, and some people will never be able to quit, no matter how many times they try. I don't consider this an excuse to smoke, and i don't believe it will make smoking safe, but it is something to help those who will not be able to quit.

11. I have been a smoker for at least 16 years and every time I smoke a cigarette I have to have a piece of gum in my mouth, I prefer mint sugar free, if I don't have gum I can't even stand to smoke.
I've been having a burning pain in my back, kind of feels like it may be in my lungs and I'm afraid that I may have lung cancer. Do I think that chewing gum may prevent mouth and upper digestive cancers, it's possible, but make no mistake, it will Not stop you from getting lung cancer of emphycema? Not in a million years!!

14. Chewing gum cannot neutralize the risks of cigarette smoking and alcohol intake. While it may lower the risk of mouth cancers, the cigarette smoke is inhaled, and consumption of alcohol is associated with an increased risk of almost every kind of cancer. Promotion of such a gum could lead to a false sense of security. While alcohol intake in moderation has been associated with cardiovascular benefits, there is no benefit to be obtained from cigarette smoking. I agree with the comments above, that people need to just realize how smoking increases their risk of lung cancer, heart disease, and cerebrovascular disease.

You are certainly entitled to smoke your life away if you choose - that is your right. However, why is it necessary to call people names who prefer not to die from cigarette smoking? Your outlook on life sounds very bitter and unhappy, but it seems like you are happy that way.

16. After smoking for 40 years, I quit smoking 17 years ago with the aid of nicorette gum for about two weeks. It wasn't easy either - there were two other smokers in the house. Eventually they gave up cigarettes too. For me, it was the best thing I've ever done for myself. It not only helped me to enjoy the taste of food again and, sure I gained some weight, but I have this energy that won't quit. With all the extra energy, I don't have to worry about becoming obese. I'm on the treadmill every day, lift weights, etc. I'm also not wasting money on something that was killing me.

Why are you in a cancer blog site if you are not concerned about the result smoking has on your body.
If you have never had cancer you cannot possibly know the pain and distress caused by it, not to just you but those that care for you. I am in remission for throat cancer that was not caused by smoking, but it has made me very aware of the problems caused by smoking and I go out of my way to not be in areas that have people smoking. I hope the rest of your life is lived without cancer.

20. This story is really coming at an odd time for me, I have always been a gum lover, sometimes chewing a whole pack, the large pack, by myself in a few hours. I bought a couple of packs of gum a few weeks ago, I haven't had a pack in a year or more and decided to treat myself, I bought two packs of wrigleys, I ate the pack like a glutton,my arm was itchy, I scratched, a few hours later I had blood blisters up and down my arm, my feet hurt and my ankles swelled, I am alergic to artificial sweetner of any kind, I decided to read the labels of everything I ate the day before, wrigleys gum had artificial sweetner added to it, along with regular sugar, it was not sugarless gum, kids eat this stuff, its not a good thing, a lot of people get sick from it, I called wrigleys and talked to a very short tempered girl who informed me that they didn't have to label it on the front of the package, the writing was so small I had to use my magnifying glass to see what was in this gum. Monsanto strikes again, or someone like him , why would they need sugar and aspertame in this gum? If I need vitamins I'll eat right, if I want aspertame I'll buy some, I don't need companies sneaking it into my food as they do with genetically engineered soy, this is a practice that should be stopped at once, children don't need to have this in anything they eat, neither do I. There is always an article to tout this ckind of thing in the guise of new and wonderful things about gum, READ the label first before you eat anything in this country anymore. A cure for cancer? I think not.
