Today started Komen's 3-Day Walk in Seattle. Participants walk 60 miles in three days to help raise millions of dollars for breast cancer research and patient support. Check the website for the cities near you that have 3-Day walks in the coming months.
If you're not up for a three day walk maybe try a two day walk. I would love to do the 3-Day. I would also love to do it with my dad. Back in the spring of 2003 my dad and I did the Avon 2-day breast cancer walk in New York City. It was an amazing experience. Walking 13 miles a day when I didn't train was hard but I finished - with my legs like two bricks. My dad was fine! He is a runner so he made it look easy.
What was very special about that experience is the fact that my dad kept something around his neck from that day. On the trip we had plastic pendants to put around our neck that had a number to tell us where our tent or luggage was. I noticed last year that he still was wearing it around his neck. I thought that was sweet. Dads might have a hard time talking to their daughters about breast cancer but that said a lot.
