Breast cancer survivor, actress and anti-pharmaceutical advocate Suzanne Somers, author of Ageless: The Naked Truth About Bioidentical Hormones, suggests that if she had it to do over again, she would not undergo radiation treatment for breast cancer. During an interview Somers shares information on bioidentical hormones with The Desert Sun's Bruce Fessier, Somers is quoted as saying, "The whole time I was lying on that radiation table and I was so sick from it, I kept thinking, isn't it radiation that gives us cancer? I couldn't get that thought out of my mind."At the time of her breast cancer diagnosis, Somers researched Iscador, a mistletoe extract, and chose to include the alternative therapy as part of her treatment. Somers said she refused to give up her hormones, insisting that she knew more about hormones than the doctor treating her for cancer.
Somers has critics in the medical and pharmaceutical communities, and perhaps rightly so. Manipulating hormones with bioidentical hormone therapy is not nearly as simplistic as she makes it sound, nor is cancer.
In her defense, while she does hold some unorthodox beliefs about health and cancer treatment, she readily adds that her approach to health is not something she advocates for everyone. Even with that caveat, people must be interested in what she has to say, as most of her books become bestsellers. Without a formal medical education and scientific expertise to back up what she has to say, I am not certain why so many seem to be listening.
I understand cancer is a scary diagnosis, and current treatments including chemotherapy, radiation and chemoprevention drugs are an inexact science. Not everyone diagnosed with cancer is cured. But cancer is also not a disease that allows the patient a great deal of time to experiment with various treatments.
As a breast cancer survivor, with a keen interest in cancer and cancer treatments, I believe there is a place for some alternative treatments. I also believe, in time, that some of the current conventional treatments will be replaced with more effective treatments. I am relatively certain that Suzanne Somers is a lovely woman. However, I try to chose my authority figures and the experts whose advice I value very carefully. Your thoughts?

1. Hi Dalene,
I understand your concerns and your fears, being a breast cancer survivor yourself and what you've no doubt gone through. However, have YOU done any research on who these "experts" you place your trust in are, and where THEIR vested interests lie? Do they really care about making you well and other women well -- permanently?? Does it not bother you that the same companies who are "racing to find the cure" also create and dump BILLIONS of gallons of breast cancer causing agents into our environment through their billion dollar organochloride companies (yes, not only do they create drugs and pharmaceuticals, they also have a WHOLE other line of companies they own!) and yet there is no mention of that anywhere in their promo?? And so their focus remains on DETECTION, NOT prevention...please carefully note this...DETECTION is NOT the same as PREVENTION. Telling you what things in the environment might be harming you or causing cancer is VERY different than urging women to do exams and come spend money (or insurance claim money) on mammograms...which also can cause more cancer. They do NOT want you to know THEY are producing and profitting from owning companies which make cancer CAUSING agents as well as owning companies that produce the drugs which might send you into "remission"...but NOT cure you. This is a vested interest of "create your own business". Make women sick...then offer them the "cure". Many people find it too appaling to confront. They don't want to believe such evil could exist. Many just don't know because it's hidden from them. Many are just too afraid of dying if they've been diagnosed to do the research and find out what else they can do. They think they don't have "time". But that is also a myth. Cancer grows slower than what the medical profession tells you since they want to scare you into coming RIGHT in to get their drugs and treatments. They don't want you to research anything else. Just blindly follow like a sheep.
Suzanne is ON to them and they view her as dangerous and so every measure will be taken to pretty much shut her up via the media, the medical profession (who also profit and live off of sick women) in the hope that no one will believe her or listen to her. Don't you think the general public is smart enough to decide for themselves if they want to try what she did?? We do NOT need someone (particularly those with a multi-billion dollar vested interest) to "protect" us from Suzanne. The only thing they are afraid of is that what she's done might actually work, (PROOF: She is as ALIVE, HEALTHY and well as ANY of the Cancer Industry's poster girls such as Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow, Olivia Newton John etc...but does anyone ask about HER story?? NO. They stick with the for-profit establishment's poster kids.) What if many others tried the same thing Suzanne did and discovered it worked safely and effectively. Billions of dollars could be lost to them. They don't care about cure. They care about MONEY. Period.

Do some internet searches on BCAM Scam, AstraZeneca and Breast Cancer Awareness etc. You might be surprised at what you find. Believe it...or not. It's completely up to you.
