The racial gap is constantly narrowing in most aspects of North American society, except in one respect: Cancer. According to studies, the life spans of white women with breast cancer are continually on the rise, while the life spans of black women with cancer have pretty much remained stagnant. The average span of survival from the time of diagnosis in white women increased from 20 to 27 months, while in black women, it only increased from 16 to 17 months. Any causal relationship at this time is only speculation, but it's thought it has to do with accessibility of healthcare between races. For white women, only 11% lack healthcare insurance, while 20% of black women do. Distrust of the healthcare system is also a speculated cause.
