Samantha M. Eisenstein and Bridget A. Ahearn founded
SAMFund: Surviving And Moving Forward in 2003, to help young adult cancer
survivors, between the ages of 17 and 35, move forward into a successful life after cancer treatment ends. Often,
cancer treatment depletes the financial resources of young adults and their families, leaving them without the
financial ability to pay all the costs of education, living, job search and continuing medical bills.Eisenstein and Ahearn believe it is difficult enough for healthy young adults to get established in a life of their own, and doubly difficult for a young adult cancer survivor, who may have lost time and savings surviving cancer. When Eisenstein and Ahearn looked around, they could not find an organization that existed solely for the purpose of financially assisting young adult survivors with their transition into post-treatment life. The SAMFund provides grants and scholarships to help young adult cancer survivors with moving forward. SAMFund is a US-based program.
