Pancreatic cancer is getting a new enemy in the form of a cellular receptor known as the "RON receptor tyrosine kinase." This receptor is active in pancreatic cancer as well as other cancers like breast cancer.Since pancreatic cancer is very deadly (4 percent survival rate), the early detection of it before spreading occurs is crucial. What researchers found out was that the RON receptor was overexpressed in pancreatic cancer cells.
Since it was "easier to find" in a way, researchers concludes that possibly blocking that specific receptor with targeted antibodies was more effective that traditional cancer treatments alone.
