When Patsy Ramsey passed away from a recurrence of ovarian cancer two months ago, many felt she died under the shadow of suspicion concerning her possible involvement in the murder of her six-year-old daughter JonBenet, whose beaten and strangled body was found by her father John Ramsey in the basement of her family's home in Boulder, Colorado.

At the time of Patsy Ramsey's death, the family attorney Lin Wood said, "I think people will remember Patsy as being someone who was falsely accused in connection with the death of her daughter when she should be remembered for being an incredibly loving mother, wonderful wife, and person who showed great courage in fighting a vicious disease over the last many years."

Today, breaking news reveals that a suspect has been arrested in the murder of JonBenet. Confessing to elements of the crime, the 42-year-old American second-grade school teacher John Karr was apprehended in Thailand.

John Ramsey confirmed in a written statement that Patsy was aware of the authorities interest in the suspect and she died knowing that the case was about to be solved and the murderer of her child was about to be brought to justice. She did not leave this world not knowing.

Someone raced for the cure -- in celebration of me. I am honored and flattered and so thrilled to have received in the mail today a t-shirt and the crumpled piece of pink paper than hung from my aunt's back -- with my name on it -- as she ran this 5K race in Aspen, Colorado on July 15. It was the 16th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Aspen, and my aunt has run for me for two years now. I have a t-shirt and pink piece of paper from last year too. Maybe one day I will run it for myself. First, I have to master the whole running thing.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Race for the Cure began in 1983 with 800 participants. Today the Komen Race for the Cure is the largest 5K event in the world. And in 2005, more than one million people participated in more than 100 races designed not only to raise funds but to also educate the public about early detection -- about how it is the most effective method of surviving this life-threatening disease. The five-year survival rate is 95 percent when the disease is discovered while still confined to the breast. I'm proud to have found my own lump early, before it had spread outside my breast. And I am proud to have been a part of a race -- even in name only -- that might make this early discovery possible for many more women to come.

According to the Rocky Mountain News, residents of Colorado are being urged to check for excessive radon gas in their homes. Several years ago, Colorado was ranked seventh in the list of states at highest risk for radon exposure in the home. The EPA has given each state a radon zone rating of one, two or three. The map was developed using five factors to determine radon potential, which are: indoor radon measurements, geology, aerial radioactivity, soil permeability and foundation type.

Radon, an invisible, odorless, tasteless radioactive gas that occurs naturally in soil and rocks, is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. The Rocky Mountain News offers these tips on how to test for radon in the home:

• Purchase a test kit for $35 or less, available at most hardware stores. Or check with your county health department to see if it has kits available for free or at a discount.
• Close the house for 12 hours prior to and for the duration of test. Shut doors and windows and turn off fans, blowers or vents that move air into or out from the house.
• Test home with the EPA-approved device.
• If the test reveals high levels, check with you county health department about reduction methods.
