Could virus payloads one day be able to attack cancer cells and rid the body of colorectal and liver cancer? Sounds like science fiction to me, bu the virus that causes herpes simplex may be engineered to do just that one day.New genetic engineering developments have used the herpes virus so that it actually grows inside cancer cells -- which kills them in the process. The engineered virus has shown to be safe on normal human tissue as well.
The virus, as it is being designed, won't replicate inside normal cells (only cancer cells), which makes it a perfect attack weapon in the fight against cancer. That is, if genetic engineering becomes accepted in the cancer treatment field.
