Tuesdays with Mary

From a son's loving, often heartbreakingly poignant perspective, Zack Urlocker blogs his mother's fight against ovarian cancer in Tuesdays With Mary . Until recently, Mary was in hospice care, and not doing too well. However, in a recent turn of events, the doctors have cancelled hospice care for Mary, based on her continuing improvement and strength. Mary will resume chemotherapy to battle ovarian cancer. Urlocker keeps this online diary to let others know how his mother is doing and how family and friends are coping.

Chemotherapy is not a walk in the park, and no one would wish the ordeal of chemotherapy on anyone. However, for Mary, and her family and friends, this new direction is an occasion of hope. As Mary said, "Cancel the funeral. I just told people I had cancer to see who my friends really are."

The healing power of music for cancer patients

Just as the angels of heaven sing in melodic and lilting harmony, there are angels among us here on earth who use the language of music, singing our spirits into healing on translucent angel wings. The lyrics and music of Sandi Kimmel is as inspiring as the first rays of light at dawn, as joyful as the flutter of butterfly wings, as comforting as a warm cup of tea and as healing as the kindness and love of a friend. As a music healer and chronicler of the inner journey, Ms. Kimmel has met her calling here on earth with spiritual authenticity and wisdom. The healing power of her music is intended to make the struggles of life a little easier to handle. Many chemotherapy patients, their families and medical staff have played her music during treatment. TRANSITIONS, a collection of uplifting original songs about life’s most defining moments and challenging transitions, is recognized and valued in many healthcare settings for its healing properties, and has been distributed worldwide. MUSIC IN MY SOUL, is Ms. Kimmel's second collection of original music as a sharing of love and joy in these complex times. Music Healer is Ms. Kimmel's website, which features her lyrics, music and columns focusing on the healing power of music.

37 days to live a life

What if you had 37 days left to live? How would you spend each of those days? What would be meaningful, what would fall away as insignificant? When Patti's stepfather was diagnosed with lung cancer, she helped her mother care for him at home. As he slipped away, a little more each day, she wondered what she could do for him. She struggled to understand what he might be feeling, what he might like to talk about, what he might like to do, during his final days. She was there with him when he died, 37 days later. When a very bad thing happens to you or someone you care about, life calls you to make a choice in how you will respond. Patti's response was to try to make something good, out of something bad. She started the37days blog, where she writes as much as she can, publishing her thoughts and memories, fears and dreams. She shares her perspectives and philosophies on life in a documented journey through each day of her life. A legacy for her daughters to hold, after their mother has lived the last day of her 37 days. Patti's37days blog recently won the Best of Blogs award for most inspirational blog. 37days is an inspiration, because in truth, no one knows when the first day of the last 37 days begins. Patti's message: Live each day well, with meaning.
