Join Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC) for their next national teleconference, Follow-up Testing: What You Need to Know, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on Thursday, August 16. Virginia F. Borges, MD, of the University of Colorado Health Science Center, will answer your questions about follow-up testing after initial treatment, including:

Living Beyond Breast Cancer will hold a free teleconference, Follow-up Testing: What You Need to Know, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on Thursday, August 16.
Speaker Virginia F. Borges, MD, will discuss follow-up testing after initial treatment, including follow-up testing guidelines, insights into future tests, the uses or limitations of screening tests and the emotional impact of follow-up testing. Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC) is hosting part two of their annual October telephone conference series called Advanced Breast Cancer: Understanding Treatments and Enhancing Quality of Life. Virginia F. Borges, MD, assistant professor of medicine at the University of Colorado Health Science Center, headlines the teleconference. She will be discussing Managing Symptoms and Side Effects: A Holistic Approach to Advanced Breast Cancer. Dr. Borges will provide creative approaches for managing discomfort, discuss medication for side effects like hot flashes, nausea, fever and chemo brain. She will also explore complementary treatments to supplement conventional treatments.

Hormonal Therapies: Making Decisions and Quality of Life After Breast Cancer is the next teleconference hosted by Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC). Cancer Monthly will be hosting its first teleconference for cancer survivors to present information for patients and their family members on alternative therapies and integrative medicine. The free teleconference, which will take place on Thursday June 29, 2006 at 8:00 PM EST, will feature four cancer survivors as they share their experiences of using alternative and integrative therapies as part of cancer treatment and cancer survivorship. Three of the featured guest speakers will be:
- Paul Kraus -- In 1997, Kraus was diagnosed with advanced peritoneal mesothelioma. He was sent home to die. He created his own alternative path to healing. Nine years later, he is enjoying a good quality of life.
- Madeleen Herreshoff -- In 1991, Herreshoff was diagnosed with aggressive poorly differentiated invasive breast cancer. Three years later, she had a local recurrence of her cancer. She blended mainstream and alternative therapies to create her own path to healing.
- Ann Fonfa -- In 1993, Fonfa was diagnosed with invasive lobular breast cancer. She suffered recurrences from 1995 to 2001 with 25 tumors overall -- 14 of which appeared on the chest wall.
